Shri B. Anantharaman - Violin

B. Anantharaman, or Ravi as he is popularly known in the field of music and dance, was initiated in the art of playing the violin at the tender age of six and gave his first stage appearance at the age of nine. For more than three decades now, Ravi has more than lived up to the promise he showed at that debut, carving a niche for himself in the field where violin playing has been taken to heights of international excellence by great Carnatic maestros.

Ravi initially trained at The Fine Arts Society, Chembur for five years and then underwent advanced training under Shri. S. V. Ramachandran. His violin technique is impeccable and remarkable – powerful, precise, with platinum tonality and incredible virtuosity. His music is highly creative, vigorous and stretches the seams of aesthetic possibilities. Compositions flow with precision, alacrity and a deep sense of individual interpretation, raga alapanas are essays of mystical originality, rhythmic improvisations swell and descend like cascades of radiance. He has won the admiration of laymen and connoisseurs alike and has been embellishing concerts with the “gayaki” style that has been much raved about.

Shri Ravi has the unique distinction of accompanying both styles of music i.e. Carnatic and Hindustani. Having accompanied renowned musicians like Smt. D. K. Pattamal, Dr. Shri. M. Balamurali Krishna, Smt. Aruna Sayeeram, Shri. Maharajapuram Ramachandran, Shri. Sankaran Namboodari, Smt. Bombay Jayshree, Shri. Shankar Mahadevan, etc. at prestigious organizations in India and abroad, his expertise has equally been appreciated in the Jugalbandi and Fusion concerts.

He has also accompanied renowned dancers like Shri C.V. Chandrasekhar, Smt. Chitra Viswesaran, Shri. Raja Reddy & Smt. Radha Reddy, Smt. Sucheta Bhide Chapekar, Shri Deepak Mazumdar, Smt. Hema Malini, Smt. Meenakshi Seshadri, Smt. Sudha Chandran, etc. at prestigious organizations in India and abroad.

 

Under achievements, Shri Ravi has been a proud scholarship recipient for five consecutive years from Chembur Fine Arts School, a prize winner at Shanmukhananda Sabha in 1985 and 1988, at Synergy (NITIE) in 1987, 1988 and 1989 and Mood Indigo in 1990. He has been conferred the title of “Sur-mani” by Sur Singar Samsad, “Soundarya Sangeet Sitara” by Soundarya Naatya Kalaalaya, “Shivali Sangeetha Shiromani” by Shivali Cultural Society of India and “Endowment Award for Life time Contribution to Carnatic Violin” by The Fine Arts Society, Chembur.

Ravi is part of the faculty for violin at the Fine Arts Society, Chembur and Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Ghatkopar. Anantharaman is also a music composer having composed the Theme Music for many Music & Dance Festivals.

Ravi is the co-founder of "72/35 Southern Street"; a Carnatic band with a difference.

His melodious transitions of every ragam, his words of wisdom for detail, expressions (Abhinaya) & grace has encouraged every dancer of Soundarya Natya Kalalaya to emote effortlessly whilst performing to scintillating music.

A Software Consultant by profession, Ravi effortlessly straddles the world of Music & Computers.
